The University of Central Missouri – Lee’s Summit, located in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, is a second campus of the University of Central Missouri. It provides evening and weekend classes to accommodate adult learners or any students with full-time jobs. UCM – Lee’s Summit offers more than 50 undergraduate completion programs, graduate degrees, professional education programs, and certificate programs. Professional education programs range from entry-level, industry-recognized credentials to continuing education units. Many of the classes are taught by the same faculty who teach on the main campus in Warrensburg, Missouri.
The campus is located about 20 miles outside of Kansas City, Missouri, and about 40 miles northwest of UCM’s main campus in Warrensburg. The university operates a shuttle bus that transports students between the two campuses. Other student services include academic advising and career services, the campus library, the University Store, and a courier that transports educational materials between Warrensburg and Lee’s Summit.
The main campus of the University of Central Missouri (UCM), located in Warrensburg, Missouri, was established in 1871. It was founded as Normal School No. 2, a teacher-training institution, and quickly became Warrensburg Teachers College. It became Central Missouri State Teachers College in 1919 and, as its curriculum expanded, was renamed Central Missouri State College in 1945. In 1966, it was given the deed to Max B. Swisher Skyhaven Airport, making it the only university in the state to own and operate an airport. It changed its name again in 1972 to Central Missouri State University and adopted its present name in 2006. Today, the university enrolls more than 11,000 students and counting each year. The school colors are cardinal and black, and its athletic nicknames are the mules and the jennies.
